Emergency Preparedness

WE’RE PREPARED, ARE YOU?

The Cohoes Housing Authority takes pride in our emergency preparedness. All of our complexes are equipped with generators in case of a power outage, we have cooling stations for those who need escape the hot summer days, and we are even prepared if we need a disaster shelter. You never know when you might need to evacuate. It is always helpful to have a “go bag” ready in case something like this happens.

We Believe - “In the last two years, two Cohoes graduates were recognized in the Albany Business Review’s ’40 under 40’ awards, which is really something to be proud of,” said Co-principal Bryan Wood. “We want our students to know that these people graduated from Cohoes, and they believe in them, too.”

We believe: (VIEW VIDEO)
This September at Cohoes High School, administrators, faculty and staff are taking a new approach to support academic success and encourage students to set and achieve personal goals. “We believe” is the beginning of a statement. Whether it’s a broad statement such as, ‘We believe you can do this,’ or ‘we believe you can graduate,’ or a specific statement for just one student, we want students to know that the Cohoes High School community believes in them,” said Co-principal Joseph Rajczak. Recycle Your Old Household Batteries

 Help Save the Environment! Recycle Your Old Household BatteriesThe Cohoes Housing Authority sponsor's this program to help discourage batteries from being thrown in our landfills. All you have to do is tape all the positive terminals and drop them in the buckets provided at City Hall or at the Housing Authority. It’s quick, easy and saves the environment. In addition, City Hall will also be collecting any cell phones (no chargers or accessories) that you are looking to donate.
For more information contact Kathy Oliver at 235-4500 ext. 117 or email at koliver@cohoeshousing.org.
===========================
The Cohoes Housing Authority is spearheading a household battery recycling program. This program can help avoid the improper disposal of hundreds or even thousands of pounds of batteries leaking hazardous wastes in our soils.  The housing authorities uses nearly  1000 batteries each year for all their battery operated smoke detectors and will be sending those back and felt that offering it open to the city residents was the right thing to do. It will cost a few extra dollars and if the program gets too large, we’ll seek outside funds to help support the program.

Residents can drop off batteries at any of our maintenance shops, main offices and we’re soliciting businesses that may want to participate and we’ll add them to our list below as they notify us.
